AWARDS & RECOGNITION

MOTDRA rewards riders and horses for a job well done. There are awards and honors for horse and rider in many categories. We get together at an annual meeting in January to find out who earned awards, to share great food, and have fun! In addition to the special awards mentioned below, MOTDRA is eligible for breed awards from the International Arabian Horse Association (IAHA) for best Arabian and best half-Arabian. We are working with other breed associations to find sponsors for more breed awards. If you have suggestions or would like to help sponsor awards, please contact MOTDRA secretary

MOTDRA Mileage Program

Enrolling in the MOTDRA mileage program is optional for you and your horse. If you do enroll, the points/mileage secretary will keep track of the MOTDRA miles you complete as well as the competitive miles you complete with other organizations. You simply need to send the secretary verification of those miles by Dec. 1 to have the miles counted in that calendar year. The initial fee into the program is for any horse or rider, or if you are enrolling just one horse and rider, you can pay . Every year after, there is a enrollment fee for each horse and rider. One rider may have multiple horses in the program. Mileage awards are given at the annual meeting in January. The first recognition comes at 150 miles, second at 300 miles, third at 500 miles, and all subsequent recognitions are at 500 mile intervals. The awards are nice - hats, plaques, shirts, duffel bags and other great goodies.

High Point Awards

This program honors the highest scoring horse of each ride season. Appropriate prizes are awarded to first through fourth places. If three or more junior riders qualify their horses, a separate division of awards will go to junior riders. There is no fee for the program, however, only paid MOTDRA members are eligible. Rides completed before the membership fee is paid will not count for points (they may count in the mileage program). Only MOTDRA-sanctioned rides will count. Points are awarded based on the distance completed and the placing. A first place rider in the 15-mile division, gets 5 points. A first place rider in a 30-mile ride gets 8 points. Points are awarded for completion of any distance. And extra points are awarded for champion or best condition placing and reserve champion. These coveted awards are given at the annual meeting in January. A horse and rider competing for high point awards must participate in the annual MOTDRA benefit ride. This participation may include entering and riding or volunteering to work. At least one MOTDRA endurance or LD endurance ride and one CTR must also be completed to be in the running for a high point award.

The MOTDRA Limited Distance High Point Program will honor the highest scoring LD horse of the ride season. An appropriate prize will be awarded to only one horse with the highest points. Only MOTDRA sanctioned LD miles will count. LD endurance rides that are MOTDRA sanctioned will not be counted. Junior Riders & their horses will be kept in a separate division. The horse must enter in the benefit ride. If a horse is unable to compete in the benefit ride, the owner may work the ride, or pay the full open division entry fee to keep the horse eligible for points. Each competitor must complete at least one other MOTDRA Sanctioned CTR besides the benefit ride. This award is sponsored by Marjorie Vaughn & Marj's Coolegs.

Trail Horse Award

This is a fun award to try to attain. It is a yearly award given to all horses enrolled in the mileage program who complete two-thirds of the available MOTDRA-sanctioned miles or 225 miles, whichever is less, including the yearly benefit ride. This award given in January is a high quality horse-sheet embossed with the MOTDRA logo and "Trail Horse of the Year." There may be multiple winners of the Trail Horse award, or there may be no winner depending on the mileage attained. You do get to pick the color and size.

Ride Managers

All ride managers and co managers receive an award at the annual meeting in January.

The Starman Award

This award will be donated annually by Chris Anton at BayRab Acres. It will go to the grade horse (non registered) that completes the most MOTDRA sanctioned miles in a ride year. If two horses have the same mileage total, the award will go to the horse with the most points using the MOTDRA high point system.

Butterscotch Award

This award is sponsored by Patti and Sam Crawford. It goes to the MOTDRA rider who has accumulated the most miles on MOTDRA-sanctioned rides in that calendar year. If multiple riders accumulate identical mileage, multiple awards will be given. Miles completed before membership dues are paid will not be counted toward this award. The award is presented at the annual meeting in January.

SS PEPSI SMOKE AWARD

To be given to the horse who, in its first year of long distance riding competition, has earned the most points at any distance during the current competition year. The horse, owned by an active member, must have entered and completed a minimum of two approved MOTDRA events. Points will be accrued on the same basis as is used for all other MOTDRA awards. Ties will be broken by flipping a coin to determine the winner of the material award, but will be reported in the newsletter, etc., as equal ties. If no horse is eligible, the award will be carried over to the next competitive year.

Points accrued before membership dues are paid will not count.

This award is sponsored by Jim & Sandy Burks. Any changes to this award will be determined by the sponsor.

Bob Clutter Award

You DON'T have to be a rider to earn an award! This award, sponsored by Doug and Pat Gifford, goes to the volunteer who works the most at rides in a ride year. Each ride manager keeps a list of ride workers and gives that list to Pat Gifford, who makes the award determination. The award is named for one of MOTDRA's favorite ride volunteers who passed away.

JUNIOR RIDER AWARD

These two awards are sponsored by Larry & Bev Chesnut and Soft Touch Pet Grooming. One will go to one MOTDRA member under the age of 18 who earns the most miles in , limited distance. The second award will go to one MOTDRA member under the age of 18 who earns the most miles in the open class.
